Rangers Recap vs. Boston Bruins 1/21/11

In what was probably the best game I've seen all season, the Rangers managed to pull off a big victory in Boston in overtime coming off Marian Gaboriks stick, on a powerplay no less!

The Rangers were deadlocked with the Bruins the entire game it seemed. Every time the Rangers scored, the Bruins seemed to come right back and answer to tie the game up. Eventually, the game when into overtime, and was decided on a mad scramble in front of Tuukka Rask when Marian Gaborik lifted it over him on a third attempt after Rack made two humongous saves, but could not collect himself in time for the third shot.

The game was what you would expect from both of these teams. The Bruins are a team that is known for their aggressiveness, and the Rangers are a tireless hard-working team that isn't afraid of sacrifice. Stellar goaltending from both Lundqvist and Rask made the game interesting, and the physical play was stellar. It seemed which team would bend first was going to be the team that lost, but it did not turn out that way. The Rangers caught a lucky call, after it seemed they weren't getting the calls they deserved, in overtime when Andrew Ference ran Ryan McDonagh into the boards from behind and received a five-minute game misconduct. The Rangers finally capitalized with three seconds left in overtime, on what would be their first powerplay goal in eight games. As for McDonagh, he was slow to get up, but managed to skate off on his own power. I believe he went back to the dressing room after the hit, and will keep the blog updated with his status.

Overall, it was a Rangers win that has become typical of this team. The never-quit attitude has flourished up and down the lineup all season, and this is just one more win for the books.
