10/20/11 Rangers vs. Flames

X-men, welcome to die.

Rangers against the Calgary Flames.

The Rangers managed a very improbable win this Tuesday on their tour-de-Canada, by shutting out the Vancouver Canucks 4-0. Goals were scored by Mike Rupp, Marian Gaborik, Ryan McDonagh, and Brian Boyle, as the secondary scoring for the Rangers finally kicked in to put the Rangers over the hump and out of the reach of Vancouver. But the main story of that game was Henrik Lundqvist, who stopped everything that came his way. The Canucks out-shot the Rangers 40-19, yet Lundqvist didn't allow any to get by him. It was probably the best showcase of skill by Henrik Lundqvist in recent memory, and one can only home he continues to be this perfect.
Next on the list is Calgary. Both the Rangers and Flames have four points, and are looking to get more to make up for a floundering start. The Flames are always a dangerous team. With players like Rene Bourque and Jarome Iginla on the ice, you can expect good things to happen from those players. However, much like last season, the Rangers are melding together to make up for a bum start, and are starting to get cohesive on both defense, and offense. One thing they need to cut down on are these friggin' penalties, man. Seriously. There were 10 penalties assessed to the Rangers in the Canucks game. Some of which came in their own offensive zone consecutively. Obviously, they did not let anything in, but being on the penalty-kill is never a good thing. The Rangers need to get disciplined, otherwise, they better be scoring a lot more short-handed goals if they plan to win games.

The Diagnosis

The Rangers have a good chance to win this game. As much as I like Miikka Kiprusoff, he has been iffy lately, and now is the perfect time for the Rangers to pounce on his inconsistency. Which means the Rangers need to throw everything they have at Kiprusoff, and test him for weak spots early. If the Rangers can do that, without taking penalties, they can walk away with a victory tonight in Calgary.

The Prediction

Rangers win 3-2

Brad Richards will get the opening goal for the Rangers half way through the 1st period.
Curtis Glencross with get the first for the Flames early in the 2nd.
Artem Anisimov will score half way through the 2nd.
Jarome Iginla will tie the game up early in the 3rd.
And finally, Ryan Callahan will get the game winner soon after Iginlas goal to win.

Enjoy the game!
