11/25/11 Rangers vs. Washington Capitals

If your reading this instead of Black Friday shopping, well done.

Rangers against the Washington Capitals.

This is the first meeting of these two teams since their heated playoff series that the Capitals won in five games. Since then, the Rangers and Capitals have been pretty even throughout the regular season. The Capitals had their long win-streak at the start of the season, and the Rangers had their seven game win-streak just recently end to the Montreal Canadiens. The Rangers and Capitals sit just two points apart from each other, and like most of the games they played against each other last year, it will now disappoint.

The Rangers have slowed down since going on a tear of seven straight games where they heavily outscored their opponents. Now, the Rangers have just one goal in their last two games. What is going to be important for the Rangers in this game is getting on the board first. They are 9-1 after scoring the first goal, so if they can get off to a good rhythm initially, they can be on track for a good game. The Rangers just have to get back to what started them on their win-streak: hard-fought, honest hockey. If they can do that, they have a good chance to get back in the win column today.

The Diagnosis

I think the Capitals are a better team than they were last year. With the addition of Tomas Vokoun they have solved their plaguing goaltending problem. Now, all they need is for their star Alex Ovechkin to get back on track, who has under-performed all season. He has not acted like the elite scorer he is, and that is why the Caps sit so low on the standings currently. I think it is going to be a tough game, possibly ending in a shootout. As far as who wins that, your guess is as good as mine.

Enjoy the game!
