1/16/11 Rangers vs. Flyers

For those New Yorkers who don't want to watch the Jets get crushed.

Rangers against the Philadelphia Flyers.

My animosity for Philly has died down recently, with the Eagles and their criminal quarterback getting booted from the NFL playoffs, but tonight, it could be revived once again.

The Rangers have had troubles with the Flyers all season, losing both games prior to  score of 4-1. The Rangers have remained in the hunt though, still hanging onto the 6th place spot despite all the injuries of their grinding style piling up. The Rangers still have a better power-play than the Flyers, and also lead the league in short handed goals with nine. The Rangers can be dangerous on the special teams, and when given an opportunity, it will take a lot to make them miss.

The Flyers lead the Eastern Conference with 61 points. Danny Briere, Ville Leino, and Scott Hartnell hae bonded together to form an impeccable line for the Flyers. Also, both times that the Flyers have versed the Rangers this season, Nikolai Zherdev has scored. If the Rangers still want a shot at winning tonight, they will have to shut him down.

My Diagnosis

With the way both teams are coming into this game on losses, there is no real momentum in swing for either team. Although, I feel the Rangers are going to have to be damn near perfect if they want to beat the Flyers. that means capitalizing on the opportunities that present themselves as much as possible, which is something I have seen them struggle with as of lately. In all, it is going to be a tough game, but I have to give it to the Flyers tonight.

My Predictions

Flyers win 3-2

Danny Briere will get the Flyers on the board early in the 1st period.
Jeff Carter will also score in the 1st.
Brandon Dubinsky will score early n the 2nd for the first goal for the Rangers.
Nikolai Zherdev will score the finall goal for the Flyers in the 3rd period.
And finally, Marian Gaborik will pot one to give the Rangers two.

Enjoy the game!
